The Gorzów Higher Vocational School in Gorzów Wielkopolski was established on August 1, 1998. In 2009, the school merged with the non-public Higher Vocational Information Technology School, which resulted in the establishment of the Technical Institute, offering computer science and mechanical engineering and construction majors. The school authorities, supported by the provincial authorities, took steps to merge with the Branch Faculty of Physical Culture of the Poznań Academy of Physical Education (AWF). This transformation took place on September 1, 2016 and resulted in the establishment of the Gorzów Academy. Currently, the school operates within the structure of five faculties: Administration and National Security, Economics, Humanities, Technology, and Health Sciences. Within them, there are departments and departments. Students can study 21 fields of bachelor's, engineer's, and master's studies, including engineering and technical sciences, humanities, social sciences, medicine, and health sciences. The Academy runs a Doctoral School, where future doctors in fields such as mechanical engineering, linguistics and pedagogy are educated. Currently, the university has over 1.8 thousand students, of whom 58.5% are women and 6.9% are foreigners. Last year, the university graduated 467 times. In the academic year 2024/2025, 819 male and female students began their studies, including 49 foreigners. The university employs 217 full-time academic teachers, of whom over half (50.2%) are women. The university's graduates include Andrzej Bocheński - politician and local government official, Marshal of the Lubuskie Voivodeship in 1999-2006; Milena Olszewska - disabled archer, two-time bronze medalist at the Paralympic Games, world and European champion; and Jacek Piotr Wójcicki – local government official, in the years 2006–2014 mayor of the Deszczno commune, since 2014 mayor of Gorzów Wielkopolski.
