The Maritime University of Technology in Szczecin continues the tradition of maritime education dating back to 1947, when the single-faculty State Maritime School in Szczecin was established. In the initial years of its activity, it underwent various organizational transformations, until in 1962, due to the dynamic development of the high-sea fleet and fishing enterprises in Poland, it resumed its activity as the State School of Sea Fishing. In 1963, another institution was established - the State Maritime School, which educated officer cadre for the merchant fleet. The organizational structures of both schools had the characteristics of a university. In 1967, both schools were merged, creating the post-secondary State Maritime School, which in 1968 was transformed into the Higher Maritime School with two faculties: Navigation and Mechanics. The task of the Maritime University of Technology is to educate officers - navigators, mechanics and electro-automatics - in accordance with modern standards and requirements of the world fleet, as well as qualified staff in the IT, geodesy and TSL (transport-forwarding-logistics) sectors, with particular emphasis on the maritime industry. Currently, the university has nearly 2.9 thousand students, of whom 22.4% are women and 18.7% are foreigners. Last academic year, the university educated 393 graduates. For the academic year 2024/2025, 887 male and female students began their studies, including 147 foreigners. The academic staff includes 249 academic teachers, of whom 35.7% are women.
