The history of the Medical University of Wrocław dates back to the post-war years. In 1946, the Faculty of Medicine was established at the combined University and Wrocław University of Science and Technology. In 1950, the university was transformed into the Medical Academy, and in 2012 it obtained the status of the Medical University of Piasts of Silesia. Currently, the University educates students in the fields of medicine and dentistry (including foreigners), pharmacy, medical analytics, nursing, midwifery, emergency medical services, physiotherapy, dietetics and public health. In addition, it offers doctoral and postgraduate studies. Practical training in working with patients takes place at the University Clinical Hospital, one of the largest and most modern clinical centers in Poland. Students have access to the Medical Simulation Center, modern laboratories and VR labs, which allows them to acquire their first medical skills under the supervision of qualified teaching staff. Currently, over 6.5 thousand students study at the university. people, of whom 73.7% are women and 12.5% are foreigners. Last academic year, over 1.2 thousand graduates graduated from it. In the academic year 2024/2025, almost 1.7 thousand male and female students started their studies, including 154 foreigners. The university employs 1,046 full-time academic teachers, of whom 62.5% are women. Among the university graduates is Michalina Wisłocka — a doctor and sexologist.
