The Medical University of Lodz began its operations on January 1, 1950. Currently, the Medical University of Lodz is one of the largest medical universities in Poland. It offers an attractive and diverse teaching offer, adapted to the requirements of the European Union, the needs of the domestic medical services market and the preferences of candidates. The education includes uniform master's studies, first and second cycle studies, doctoral studies and postgraduate studies. The University educates its own academic staff, conducts scientific research, development work and provides research services. Key areas of research activity include lifestyle diseases such as cardiology, oncology, diabetology, metabolic diseases and physiotherapy. Currently, the university has over 9.2 thousand students, of whom 70.1% are women and 7.6% are foreigners. Last year, the university produced almost 1.9 thousand graduates. In the academic year 2024/2025, over 2.5 thousand male and female students started their studies, including 129 foreigners. The Medical University of Lodz employs 1,140 full-time academic teachers, of whom 61.7% are women. The university's graduates include Marek Edelman, one of the leaders of the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising and a physician.
