The Pomeranian University in Słupsk was founded in 1969 under the name of the Higher Teacher Training School. Its foundation was the Teacher Training College operating since 1957. The educational offer of the university includes a wide range of social, medical, natural, pedagogical, mathematical, technical, engineering and economic fields, which are available in both full-time and part-time study systems.

Currently, the university has over 3.5 thousand students, of whom 62.5% are women and 21.6% are foreigners. Last year, the university produced 824 graduates. In the academic year 2024/2025, 1,795 male and female students began their studies, including 360 foreigners.

The employment structure at the university includes 331 academic teachers, of whom 50.2% are women. The university's graduates include: Dominik Piotr Żyburtowicz – poet, Bogumiła Żongołłowicz – journalist, poet, writer and doctor of humanities, as well as Monika Stanny – economist and geographer, habilitated doctor of economics, professor at the Institute of Rural and Agricultural Development of the Polish Academy of Sciences, director of IRWiR PAN, specialist in socio-economic and local development.
