Jan Kochanowski University in Kielce was founded in 2011. However, its history dates back to 1969, when it operated as a Higher Teacher Training School. In the following years, the university underwent numerous transformations, obtaining the rank of an adjectival university in 2008, and in 2011 – the status of a classical university. Since 1979, Jan Kochanowski has been the patron of the university. The university offers education in 58 fields of study and almost 150 specializations in almost all fields of science, including humanities, social sciences, medicine and health sciences, exact and natural sciences, and art. It also offers doctoral studies in 10 fields, in which about 300 doctoral students are currently studying. Currently, the university has over 9.2 thousand students, of whom 70.4% are women and 3.2% are foreigners. Last academic year, the university produced 2,430 graduates. In the academic year 2024/2025, 3,931 male and female students began their studies, including 89 foreigners. The university employs 835 academic teachers, of whom 56.6% are women. The university's graduates include: Piotr Sławiński - historian, poet and teacher; Andrzej Gołda - screenwriter and journalist; Andrzej Piaseczny, also known as Piasek - singer, songwriter and television personality; Wiesław Pyzalski - musician, multi-instrumentalist and music popularizer; and Krzysztof Klicki - entrepreneur, founder and president of the Kolporter company.
