The University of Economics in Wrocław was founded in 1947. Its forerunner was the Higher School of Commerce, established on the initiative of the Society for the Promotion of Economic and Commercial Sciences in Wrocław, which operated as its property. The university's staff included mainly former lecturers from Jan Kazimierz University, the Academy of Foreign Trade in Lviv and Stefan Batory University in Vilnius. Currently, the university offers 11 courses in Polish and 4 programs foreigners. It has a Doctoral School and doctoral studies for foreigners. Initiatives such as the Children's Economic University, the University of the Third Age and the Stock Exchange School are also very popular. The university has over seventy student and scientific organizations. The university is not only an important research center in the field of economics and management sciences, but also one of the largest economic schools in the country. It plays a key role in educating future economists, conducting scientific research and implementing projects for the economy. The university is also an active partner in international scientific and didactic contacts. Currently, there are almost 9.3 thousand students studying at the University, of which 54.6% are women and 4.1% are foreigners. Last academic year, the university educated about 2.9 thousand graduates. In the academic year 2024/2025, over 4.4 thousand male and female students started their studies, including 167 foreigners. The academic staff structure includes 513 full-time academic teachers, of which 56.5% are women.
