The Poznan University of Economics was founded in 1926 as the Higher School of Commerce. In 1938, the university's name was changed to the Academy of Commerce and it was granted the right to confer degrees. In 1950, the university was nationalized and renamed the Higher School of Economics. Since 1974, it has operated under the name Academy of Economics. On December 27, 2008, it received the formal status of a university and adopted its current name - Poznań University of Economics. The Poznań University of Economics is one of the leading Polish universities of economics. As a research and teaching center, it also enjoys a high reputation abroad. It specializes in educating business leaders, highly qualified managers, economic experts and government and local administration employees. UEP students can choose from 18 majors and more than 50 specializations. The university currently has nearly 7,700 students, 52.3% of whom are women, and 8.4% are foreigners. Last year, more than 2.3 thousand graduates left the university. In the 2024/2025 academic year, about 3.9 thousand male and female students began their studies, including 379 foreigners. There are 473 full-time academic staff, of which 52.2% are women.
