Poznań University of Life Sciences is a university with more than 100 years of tradition of academic agricultural and forestry studies and a 70-year history of functioning as an autonomous entity. Its origins date back to 1870, when, thanks to the efforts of August Cieszkowski, the Halina Agricultural College was established in Żabików near Poznań. Currently, the university educates students in more than thirty different fields of study. Among the most popular over the years are biotechnology, dietetics, food technology and human nutrition, forestry, finance and accounting, spatial management, eco-energetics, landscape architecture and veterinary medicine. Young people are also interested in new majors such as bioplastic engineering, agricultural engineering and applied computer science. The educational programs are innovative, incorporating modern ecological solutions and the necessary knowledge of biology, computer science and social sciences. The university also offers a wide range of third degree programs implemented at all faculties, including the possibility of studying foreigners. There are currently more than 6.7 thousand students at the University of Life Sciences, 59.2% of whom are women, and 5% are foreigners. Last academic year, the university produced nearly 1.9 thousand graduates. For the 2024/2025 academic year, more than 2.9 thousand male and female students have started their studies, including 313 foreigners. The university structure employs 737 full-time academic staff, 49.4% of whom are women. Among the university's graduates is Henryk Stokłosa - an entrepreneur in the agri-food processing industry, senator and politician.
