The history of the University dates back to 1890, when a three-year Agricultural Study was established at the Faculty of Philosophy of the Jagiellonian University. In 1923, this study was transformed into the Jagiellonian University's Faculty of Agriculture. In 2008, the Hugo Kołłątaj Academy of Agriculture in Cracow was granted the status of a university. The university is a public academic institution that conducts specialized research and educational activities in the areas of agriculture, food, forestry and environmental protection and shaping. These activities cover all aspects of these sectors - natural, technical, social and economic. The university develops and disseminates knowledge, creates innovations that foster the achievement of food security and climate neutrality, and enhances the competitiveness of the economy based on biological materials and processes, making it possible to meet the challenges of society and civilization. The University of Agriculture is a European university, constantly improving its processes and predestined to have a special impact on the Central European region. The university currently has more than 6,500 students, 58.8% of whom are women, and 2.2% are foreigners. Last academic year, the university educated nearly 2,000 graduates. For the 2024/2025 academic year, more than 2,500 male and female students have started their studies, including 62 foreigners. The university's employment structure includes 697 full-time academic staff, 50.8% of whom are women. Among the university's alumni are Adam Bachleda-Curus, an entrepreneur and local government official, and Bohdan Smoleń, a comedy actor and cabaret artist.
