The University of Bielsko-Biala was established as a result of the transformation of the Bielsko-Biala University of Technology and Humanities (formerly a branch of the Technical University of Lodz) and is currently the largest public university in the Podbeskidz region. It educates students in 26 fields of study, run by 5 faculties, offering access to modern infrastructure, professional software and certified courses and training. The university has a thriving number of scientific circles, where students develop their passions and carry out projects. Researchers work closely with key companies in the region, cultural institutions, health care and educational institutions, which allows the teaching offer to be adapted to the needs of the labor market. Currently, nearly 4,600 students are studying at UBB, 53.5% of whom are women, and 1.8% are foreigners. Last academic year, 937 graduates received their diplomas from the university. In the 2024/2025 academic year, 2221 male and female students began their studies, including 28 foreigners. The university employs 298 academic teachers, 49.7% of whom are women. Among the university's graduates are: żelika Borys - Polish teacher in Belarus, activist of the Polish minority in Belarus, president of the Union of Poles in Belarus in 2005-2010 and since 2016; Karolina Cicha - singer, actress, composer and multi-instrumentalist; Jerzy Kalina - journalist, reporter and maker of documentaries on Belarusian nationality; and Pawel “Gunsess” Oziablo - Polish musician, composer, multi-instrumentalist, music educator, guitarist of the bands Oddział Zamknięty, Acoustic Works, Kingdom Waves, Schody and others.
