Koszalin University of Technology is the only polytechnic in Central Pomerania. The university was founded in 1968 as the Higher School of Engineering in Koszalin. In the first academic year 1968/69, it had 125 students in full-time studies and 60 in evening studies. At present, the university educates in 25 fields of study in technical, economic, humanities and arts. It has an experienced staff of lecturers, a rich laboratory base, modern laboratories, a 3,000-seat auditorium, an e-learning platform, a large library and an extensive scholarship system. The university also has a network of hot-spots and an active academic community. Koszalin Technical University currently has more than 3,000 students, of whom 43% are women and 5.4% are foreigners. Last year, the university's graduates numbered 665. In the 2024/2025 academic year, nearly 1.3 thousand male and female students began their studies, including 56 foreigners. The university employs 3029 full-time academic staff, of which more than 39% are women. Koszalin University of Technology graduates include: Andrzej Jakubowski - local government official, entrepreneur and engineer, from 2006 to 2010 deputy mayor of Koszalin, from 2010 to 2014 deputy marshal of the West Pomeranian Voivodeship, Krzysztof Bieńkowski - politician, teacher, economist and local government official, from 2016 to 2018 head of the Delegation of the Mazovian Voivodeship Office in Ciechanów, from 2018 to 2023 starosta of the county of Przasnysz, senator of the 11th term, Slawomir Neumann - politician and local government official, MP for the Sejm of the 6th, 7th, 8th and 9th terms, in 2012-2015 Secretary of State at the Ministry of Health, Chairman of the Civic Platform parliamentary club, Marek Chodkiewicz - manager, controller, engineer and civil servant, in 2017-2018 Undersecretary of State at the Ministry of Infrastructure and Construction, and in 2018-2019 at the Ministry of Infrastructure.
