Swietokrzyska Technical University is the oldest university in the Swietokrzyskie region and the only public, technical academic university with the status of a polytechnic. It refers to the tradition of the Academic and Mining School, founded in 1816 by Stanislaw Staszic, the first higher technical school on Polish soil, located in the Palace of the Bishops of Cracow, now home to the National Museum in Kielce. Swietokrzyska Polytechnic constitutes a research and scientific base for the development of modern industry in the Swietokrzyskie region, as well as small and medium-sized enterprises, which are being established in the region in large numbers. More than 136 laboratories, including five accredited ones in the fields of road materials, vehicle electrotechnology, light technology, computer measurement of geometric quantities and scanning microscopy and X-ray microanalysis, equipped with modern apparatus, allow scientific research and teaching tasks to be carried out at the highest world level. Unique in the country is the Center for Laser Technologies of Metals (a joint unit of the University and the Polish Academy of Sciences) with full facilities for research in the area of laser and plasma technologies. It currently provides 23 fields of study and more than 60 specialties at five faculties. Studies are conducted in full-time and extramural systems. There is an opportunity to study foreigners in full-time studies of the first degree. The university currently has nearly 4,400 students, of whom 25 percent are women and 8.2 percent are foreigners. 1,068 graduates left the university building last year. In the 2024/2025 academic year, 1.5 thousand male and female students began their studies, including 153 foreigners. The university employs 395 academics, 39.5 percent of whom are women. The university's graduates include: Krzysztof Klicki - entrepreneur, founder and president of Kolporter, or Michal Solowow - entrepreneur prospering in the chemical industry, construction sector, and sanitary ceramics.
