The University of Zielona Gora was established on September 1, 2001 as a result of the merger of Zielona Gora University of Technology and Tadeusz Kotarbinski Pedagogical University. As of 2017, there is also a Branch Faculty in Sulechów. Currently, the university consists of 13 faculties: Arts, Construction, Architecture and Environmental Engineering, Economics and Management, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering and Automation, Physics and Astronomy, Humanities, Medicine and Health Sciences, Mathematics, Computer Science and Econometrics, Mechanical Engineering, Biological Sciences, Pedagogy, Psychology and Sociology, and Law and Administration. All faculties are authorized to confer bachelor's, engineer's and master's degrees. The university offers a wide range of scientific, cultural and sports activities. Students actively participate in discussion seminars, camps, excursions and scientific research. The University of Zielona Gora currently has nearly 9,500 students, 55.9% of whom are women and 2.7% are foreigners. Last academic year, the university educated more than 2,000 graduates. For the 2024/2025 academic year, nearly 3,500 male and female students are enrolled, including 88 foreigners. The university's structure employs 910 full-time academic staff, 44.7% of whom are women. The University of Zielona Gora boasts, among others, an alumnus Tomasz Kammel - a journalist and TV presenter.
