UKSW's roots go back to the Academy of Catholic Theology, which in 1999 gave rise to a university with a broad profile. Currently, the university has 12 faculties: Biology and Environmental Sciences, Mathematics and Natural Sciences, School of Science, Medical College, Historical Sciences, Humanities, Pedagogical Sciences, Law and Administration, Socio-Economics, and four ecclesiastical faculties - Theology, Canon Law, Family Studies, and Christian Philosophy. In addition to the supervision of the Ministry of Education and Science (MEiN), these faculties are also subject to the authority of the church authorities. The youngest unit is the Faculty of Medicine - UKSW Medical College. UKSW students can acquire knowledge in the full-time and part-time system, in uniform master's studies and in first and second cycle studies. The university also offers postgraduate studies and a Doctoral School, enabling the improvement of professional qualifications. Currently, the university has almost 10.3 thousand students, of whom 64.2% are women and 2.3% are foreigners. Last academic year, over 1.7 thousand graduates graduated from it. In the academic year 2024/2025, almost 4.4 thousand male and female students started their studies, including 106 foreigners. UKSW employs 714 full-time academic teachers, of whom 42.2% are women. The university's graduates include Janusz Pasierb - Catholic priest, poet and essayist; Józef Życiński - Roman Catholic bishop, philosopher and publicist; Kamil Sipowicz - historian of philosophy, journalist, poet, sculptor and painter; Teresa Piotrowska - politician and local government official.
