The University of Opole was founded in 1994 as a result of the merger of the Silesian Insurgents Pedagogical University and the Opole branch of the Catholic University of Lublin in Nysa. The university consists of twelve faculties, seventeen research institutes and twelve inter-university units, including the International Research and Development Centre for Agriculture and the Agro-Food Industry, the University Centre for Knowledge and Technology Transfer, the Main Library, the Foreign Languages ​​Department and the Physical Education and Sports Department. The educational offer includes almost 80 fields of study, with a predominance of humanities, and studies can be undertaken both as full-time and part-time studies. The University of Opole educates almost 8.9 thousand students, of whom 71.3% are women and 9.9% are foreigners. Last year, the university graduated over 2,000 students. In the academic year 2024/2025, almost 3,500 male and female students began their studies, including 386 foreigners. The university employs 751 full-time academic teachers, of whom 51.7% are women. Among the university's graduates are DJ Adamus — a DJ and TV personality, and Magdalena Ogórek — a politician, journalist, and TV presenter.
