The University of Białystok is the largest university in north-eastern Poland, both in terms of the number of employees and students, as well as the courses offered and forms of education. It offers education in the humanities, social sciences, exact sciences and natural sciences, as well as doctoral and postgraduate studies. Every year it carries out several dozen research projects financed from domestic and foreign funds. It is a regional leader in obtaining grants from the National Science Centre. Employees of the University of Białystok obtain patents of international importance, cooperate with renowned research centres in Poland and abroad and participate in projects with a global reach. Currently, the university has over 8.1 thousand students, of whom 68.3% are women and 6.6% are foreigners. Last year, the university educated over 2 thousand graduates. In the academic year 2024/2025, over 3.3 thousand male and female students started their studies, including 245 foreigners. The University of Białystok employs 721 full-time academic teachers, of whom almost 60% are women. Among the university's graduates is Andżelika Borys - an activist of the Polish minority in Belarus and a political prisoner.
