The academy was founded in 1999 as a sports university on the basis of a decision by the Minister of Science and Higher Education. Initially, it was named the Halina Konopacka University of Physical Culture and Tourism. The university's mission is to educate high-class specialists in sports, physical education, as well as administration and management. Currently, the university offers bachelor's and master's degrees in physical education, administration, and a bachelor's degree in management. As of the 2024/2025 academic year, the university has 696 students, of whom 29.5% are women and 2.2% are foreigners. Last year, the university's graduates numbered 190. In the 2024/2025 academic year, 265 new male and female students began their studies, including 8 foreigners. The teaching staff structure includes 17 academic teachers, 52.9% of whom are women.
