SWPS University was founded in 1996 as the Higher School of Social Psychology, on the initiative of professors from the Institute of Psychology of the Polish Academy of Sciences – Andrzej Eliasz, Zbigniew Pietrasiński and Janusz Reykowski. The function of the university's founder was taken over in 2008 by the Institute of Education Development and the company's CEO Piotr Voelkel. The university offers first and second cycle studies, uniform master's studies, postgraduate studies and a doctoral school. It has five branches located in Wrocław, Poznań, Sopot, Katowice and Kraków. SWPS University currently educates almost 18 thousand students, of whom 75.6% are women and 6.8% are foreigners. Last academic year, over 3 thousand students left the university building. In the academic year 2024/2025, almost 5 thousand male and female students started their studies, including over 479 foreigners. The university employs 497 full-time academic teachers, of whom 63.2% are women.
