The Ignatianum University in Krakow is a Catholic university with state rights, run by the Southern Poland Province of the Society of Jesus. The history of the Krakow educational and scientific center run by the Jesuits dates back to the end of the 19th century. In 1989, after being recognized by the state authorities, the Philosophical Faculty of the Society of Jesus was able to begin educating the laity. Over the next ten years, the center developed and expanded its offer of study programs, which in 1999 resulted in its transformation into the Higher School of Philosophy and Pedagogy "Ignatianum" in Krakow. The university has the right to award doctoral and postdoctoral degrees in six disciplines, covering three fields of science: humanities, social sciences, and family sciences. Currently, over 3,000 students study at the Ignatianum University, of which 82.2% are women and 1.5% are foreigners. Last year, there were 662 graduates of the university. In the academic year 2024/2025, 1,445 male and female students began their studies, including 26 foreigners. The university employs 220 academic teachers, of whom 56.4% are women.
