The history of the University of Life Sciences in Lublin dates back to 1944. Within the newly established Maria Curie-Sklodowska University in Lublin, among others, the Faculty of Agriculture and the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine were established, followed in 1953 by the Faculty of Zootechnics. The first academic year of 1944/1945 began with 150 students, and 7 veterinarians received their diploma. At present, the university develops teaching activities and conducts scientific research in three key areas for humans: techniques, technologies and organization of food production, the formation and protection of the human living environment, and health and healthy lifestyles. Students are educated at seven faculties, in 39 fields of study, including unique majors in the country, and in many specialties. The university currently has more than 6,200 students, 66.5% of whom are women, and 3.9% are foreigners. Last academic year, 1,748 graduates left the university. For the 2024/2025 academic year, more than 2.1 thousand male and female students have begun their studies, including 89 foreigners. The university employs 631 full-time academic staff, 60.1% of whom are women. Among the graduates of the University of Life Sciences in Lublin are Tadeusz Lasocki - politician, entrepreneur, MP for the Sejm of the first term; Stanislaw Adamiak - engineer, entrepreneur, honorary consul of Ukraine in Chelm; and Andrzej Maj - local government officer and official, from 2013-2018 starosta of the Kraśnik district, and from 2024 deputy governor of Lublin.
