Opole Technical University was founded in 1996 as a result of the transformation of the Higher School of Engineering, operating since 1966, into a technical university. The university educates students in 22 fields of study, offering both full-time and part-time studies. For many years, Opole University of Technology has been an interdisciplinary university, with a predominance of technical faculties such as construction or computer science, but also with the possibility of studying administration, economics, physiotherapy or architecture. The university includes six faculties and a Language Center. The Polytechnic is famous for its modern and innovative laboratories equipped with specialized equipment, enabling, among other things, the simulation of earthquakes, the study of high voltages or infrasound. The university also offers attractive courses and classes at the Confucius Institute (Center for Poland-China Cooperation), which promotes knowledge about China. The university employs 387 full-time academic staff, 40.3% of whom are women. Among the graduates of Opole University of Technology are Grzegorz Zawiślak, an entrepreneur, local government official and mayor of Prudnik, and Łukasz Mikołajczyk, a politician, teacher and administrative director of the President Stanisław Wojciechowski Kaliska Academy. There are currently more than 4,700 students at Opole Technical University, of whom 29.2% are women and 7.8% are foreigners. Last year, the university produced nearly 1.2 thousand graduates. In the 2024/2025 academic year, more than 1.9 thousand male and female students began their studies, including 196 foreigners.
